Rationale

The paradox of the strengths of the Africa woman as the home maker, keeper and provider is that the contributions of those strengths to the overall economic wellbeing of their homes and state economies are consciously or unconsciously ignored.

World over and African in particular, women have been known to organize and manage developmental projects for substance. However, they have been faced with many challenges created by the environment and society.

It is the therefore imperative to create an environment and opportunity for women in leadership and management to be appreciated and further empowered to enable them play those pivotal roles they are known for. It is, therefore, pertinent and appropriate to capacitate them with the necessary skills aimed at enhancing and developing the Africa woman’s strength in leadership.

Course Objectives

At the end of this course, participants are expected to have, amongst other things, learnt to:

  • Understand the relationship between leadership and management theories.
  • Critically assess leadership development approaches
  • Critically reflect on the impact of working within the context of politics and power
  • Consider and demonstrate the importance of leadership beyond the individual potentials
  • Understand and be able to apply the concepts of leadership traits and style
  • Appreciate the role of emotional intelligence in leadership
  • Engage in the contemporary debates around gender and leadership
  • Understand the concept of coaching, mentoring and facilitating.
